The Twisted Spoke

In Chicago there is a famous biker bar/restaurant.  I did not know it at the time when I saw this skeleton riding this old bike.  The Twisted Spoke in this image is on the west side of the city.  It is a cool looking restaurant and next time I am in Chicago I will need to stop by and get something to eat as I read that the food is great.

A super elephant

When we went on the cruise to Alaska recently we stayed a night in Seattle.  On the way to the hotel I saw this sign and had to get some images.  Once we checked in we went for a walk to this car wash.  It is called the Elephant Super Car Wash.  We got some images with a fast shutter speed but I liked this one the best with the motion blur.

Of boats and horses

This is another image from my trip to Chicago.  Of course when in Chicago you have to go to the water.  These boats caught my eye because most were white but there was this one red boat.  Not only that but one of the boats had a message that read “SAVE A HORSE”.  I did not see a single horse while in Chicago.  Maybe they are seahorse activists.

Rusty Bolt

There is not much to say about this.  It is a rusty bolt that is part of the elevated train system in Chicago.  I hope they don’t break so easy.

Caesar’s Griffin by Orlandi

When I explored Chicago in April I took many images of buildings.  Oddly enough I did not get many images of griffins or gargoyles.  I saw this griffin near the doorway of a building.  I researched it and the griffin is made by a company by the name of Orlandi based in Chicago.  They make these griffins and gargoyles by hand.

Hummingbird below

So we have a home that is 3 stories tall.  On the second and third floors there are decks outside.  We have a couple of hummingbird feeders hanging from the bottom of the third floor deck.  Sometimes we like to go outside and look at the hummingbirds from above.  They are funny and curious little birds.  They will fly up to us and check us out.  I guess they are just as curious of us as we are of them or maybe they are just letting us know that they see us watching them.  I decided to shoot one day.  Often the tiny birds will look up while we look down on them.  I caught a hummingbird below me that just happened to be looking up when I pressed the shutter. =)

A path in the forest

There were many paths we walked on when we hiked in the Tongass National Forest in Alaska.  The forest was strangely quiet but very beautiful.  We went up many inclines and stairs.  Apparently the area used to be logged by Russians before they sold the land to the United States.  Here is my favorite image of one set of stairs.

Tongass National Forest

We recently went on an Alaskan cruise.  I had never been on a cruise so I was not too sure what to expect.  I knew we would be on a big boat and there would be food and lot’s of water.  Well it was very nice and we had a great time on our cruise.  We enjoyed running around the outside of the ship with the cold wind pushing us around.  If that sounds comical you should have seen us playing basketball on the top of the ship.  We had a few stops along the way and one of our favorite stops was Sitka Alaska.  Sitka is a beautiful place.  The Bald Eagles are as common there as the vultures are here in Texas.  We had a hike planned in the Tongass National Forest while the ship was docked in port.  We saw many beautiful things while we were there.  The foliage there is amazing and there is a variety of trees.  My favorite image was when we came across this estuary.  There were some geese floating inland and I noticed the nice backdrop of the forest and the mountains.  We hope you enjoy the view.  I know we certainly did.
